Italian folklore has its pros and cons. The perpetuation of century old traditions is charming when you have the time and the relaxed attitude of a tourist… but when you just want to live, it gets borderline nerve wrecking!
Whenever Alec and I get overwhelmed with too much Italy, we bounce to Milan, which represents a perfect getaway, without escaping too far 😉 Stores are open all the time, people come from all over the world and I love the feeling of freedom given by the proximity of a major airport like Milano Malpensa.
Knowing that in a second I can hop on a plane and go wherever I want makes me feel free.

Milan is young and fashionable (a cool, walking mix of cool and trendy), it has a clean look and you always meet tons of interesting people here.
Whenever I come to Italy to visit my family, after a while I feel the need to take shelter here, connect my computer to fiber internet (if you are dying to browse at 100 megs, stay at the B&B Hotels which have the best wifi connection in Milan) and enjoy the multicultural facets of the big city.
Even though we usually love the hotel life, this time we felt like having a cozy week, cook our own food and relax at home watching Netflix on the couch. So we opted for this awesome place we found on HomeAway, a penthouse overflowing with light, decorated with sleek, modern furniture and with a wonderful roof terrace that overlooked all of Milan from above. Scroll down to end of this post to check it out. Isn’t it stunning?!
